பட்டமங்கலம் தொண்டைமான்கள்

பட்டமங்கல நாடு என்று அழைக்கபடும் நாடு சிவகங்கை ஜில்லா காளையார்கோவிலுக்கு வடக்கில் அமைந்து இருக்கும் நாடு. இந்த நாட்டை ஆளும் குறுநில அதிபர்கள் தங்களை அறந்தாங்கி தொண்டை மன்னனின் வம்சத்தில் உதித்தவர்கள் என கூறுகின்றார்கள். இந்த பட்டமங்களம் திருவிளையாடல் புரானத்தில் வரும் படலமான "பட்டமங்கை காத்தருளிய ஈசர் படலம்" பெற்ற தக்ஷினாமூர்த்திக்குரிய குருஸ்தலமாகும்.

பட்டமங்கல அதிபர்களான அம்பலக்காரர்களுக்கு திருக்கோஷ்டியூர் தேர் திருவிழாக்களில் முதல் மரியாதைகள் தரப்படுகின்றன. இவர்களது வரலாறுகளில் இலங்கையை படையெடுத்து அதை வென்ற அறந்தாங்கி தொண்டையர் மன்னனின் வழிவந்ததாக இவர்களின் குல தெய்வ கோயிலான "பைரவர் கோவில்" பதிகம் கூறுகின்றது.இந்த பட்டமங்களம் தொண்டைமாண்கள் நாட்டார் கள்ளர் இனத்தை சார்ந்தவர்கள்

இந்த பட்டமங்கல தொண்டைமான்களின் வரிசையில் வந்த வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமான் பற்றிய சுவாரஸ்யமான பல தகவல்கள் தெரிவிக்க படுகின்றது. இவர்கள் சிவகங்கை சம்ஸ்தானத்துக்குட்பட்ட பாளையக்காரர் எனவும். இவர் சிவகங்கை மன்னருக்கு நெருக்கமானவராக திகழ்ந்துள்ளனர். சிவகங்கை மன்னர் முத்துவடுகநாத தேவரின் மறைவிர்க்கு பின் நடந்த வாரிசுரிமை சண்டையில் மருதுசகோதரர்களுக்கு எதிராக படமாத்தூர் கௌரி வல்லபதேவரை ஆதரித்தற்க்காக முன்பு நட்பாய் இருந்த மருது சகோதரர்களின் எதிர்ப்புக்கு ஆளானார் என தெரியவருகின்றது. மருதுசகோதர்களுக்கும் இவருக்கும் பல சுவாரஸ்யமான சம்பவங்கள் நிகழ்ந்ததாக தெரிகின்றது.

ஒரு முறை சின்ன மருது காளையார்கோவிலின் கோபுரத்தை பெரிதாக கட்டியபோது இவரை அழைத்து கோபுரம் எப்படி என கேட்க இவர் சகஜமாக ஒரு பனைமரம் அளவே உள்ளது என வேடிக்கையாக கூறினார். அதற்க்கு மருது என்ன பனைமரம் அளவா எப்படி சொல்கிறீர்கள் என வினா எழுப்ப. ஒரு வளரியை வாங்கி தான் பனைமரம் அளவு வளரி வீசுவேன் என வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமான் வளரியை கோபுரத்தின் மேல் வீசி அந்த கோபுரத்தை தாண்டி வீசி எறிந்து காட்டினார் என ஒரு சம்பவம் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.

ஒரு முறை காளையார்கோவிலில் தெப்பக்குளம் அமைத்த சின்ன மருது அந்த தெப்பக்குளத்தில் பல் நீரூற்றுகள் கிளம்பி அதன் தன்னீர் சமையத்தி அளவுக்கு அதிகமாக பெருக வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானை அழைத்து அதை சரி செய்ய யோசனை கேட்டார் எனவும். அதற்க்கு தொண்டைமான் அயிரைமீண்கள் பல வாங்கி விட்டால் இந்த தேவையில்லாத நீரூற்றுகளை சரி செய்யலாம் என யோசனை தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.

பின்னர் ஒரு முறை வாரிசுரிமைபோட்டியில் படமாத்தூர் கௌரிவல்லபரை வளைத்த மருது அவரை சிறையில் அடைத்ததாகவும் அப்போது ஒரு நாட்டிய காரப் பெண்ணின் உதவியோடு அவரை தப்பிக்க வைத்ததற்க்காக வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமான் மீது கோபம் கொண்ட மருது அவரை தனது திருப்பத்தூர் கோட்டைக்கு அழைத்தார். வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானும் திருப்பத்தூருக்கு வருகை தந்து மருது இல்லாத காரனத்தால் திரும்பும் பொழுது மருது வீரர்களாள் சுற்றி வளைக்கப்பட்டர். தான் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சித்திரவதைக்கு ஆளாவோம் என தெரிந்த வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமான் தனது கத்தியாலேயே தன்னை குத்தி தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார்.இது திருப்பத்தூர் கோட்டை கருப்பர் கோவிலுக்கு அருகே நடந்தது.

The Role of Vaithiyalinga thondaiman in the escape of padamathur gowri vallaba thevar

It would not be out of place here to make a mention of Vaithyalinga thondaiman of pattamangalam, who was an ardent supporter of padamathur gowri vallabha thevar. It was popularly known that Vaithyalinga thondaiman was poligar of pattamanagalam nadu in sivaganga kingdom. He had schemed a plan to rescue padamathur Gowri Vallabha thevar,the adopted son of Rani Velu Nachiyar,who was kept imprisoned at kalaiyarkoil temple by china Marudhu.

Vaithyalinga thondaiman arranged a bullock cart with roof covered. He and particular dancing girl at Kalayarkoil temple hide the adopted prince into bullock cart and safely dispatched him secretely to Aranthangi via Thuvarankurichi. Few months later the spies employed by Chinna maruthu informed him that it was Vaithilinga Thondaiman who had master minded that plan of escape of the prince to Arantangi. Having been infuriated and enraged,Chinna Maruthu vowed to punish the pattamangalam poligar at any cost for this act of treachery.

Later Chinna Marudhu was at the for of thiruputtur Vaithiling Thondaiman,being afraid of Chinnamarudhu wanted to meet him and offer his explanations regarding the escape wanted to meet him and offer his explanations regarding the escape of the prince. He went into the fort of thiruputtur to meet china Maruthu. In the absence of china marudhu at the fort Vaithyalinga thondaiman returning from fort.

At the southern gate of the fort a number of soldiers of china maruthu with swords drawn surrounded Vaithilinga Thondaimaan and attempted to kil him. H knowing the intentions of the soldiers,drew his personal sword and stabbed himself to death. The thondaiman avoid arrest and torture by china maruthu so he ended his live in front of kottai Karuppar temple at thirupputtur kottai karuppar was his tutelary diety. After his being installed as zamindar of sivagangai,padamathur Gowri Vallabha Thevar and residents of pattamanagalam honoured his bravery by eracting a statue at kottai karuppar temple at thiruppathur.

Thiru Sowmiya narayana madhava thondaiman,the lineal descent of vaithiyalinga thondaiman served as minister in Srilanka.

இதன் பின்பு பட்டமேற்ற கௌரிவல்லபத் தேவர் வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானின் தியாகத்தையும் உதவியையும் பாராட்டி அவருக்கு திருப்பத்தூர் கோட்டை கருப்பர்கோவிலுக்குள் ஒரு சிலை வைத்தார். இன்றும் அந்த கோவிலில் வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானின் சிலையை கானலாம்.

வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானின் வம்சாவளியினர் பட்டமங்கலத்திலும் இலங்கையிலும் நிறைபேர் வாழ்கின்றனர். இலங்கையை சேர்ந்த தமிழ் அமைச்சரான சௌமிய மாதவ தொண்டைமான் வைத்தியலிங்க தொண்டைமானின் வம்சத்தை சார்ந்தவர் ஆவார்.
